Aimed at encouraging new friendships, Talkin’ Tables is a prize-winning UK initiative which seeks to reduce loneliness. Since launching monthly sessions in September, Talkin’ Tables Akrotiri has gone from strength to strength. The group now has around 70 people as part of it’s Facebook group and 10-15 people coming together each month to enjoy a relaxed chat over food and drinks.
The group is for anyone who may feel isolated, are new to the Cyprus bases, or simply need a friendly face and a welcoming space. These meet-ups encourage connection, friendship, and open conversation, while also giving members the chance to share ideas and discuss what activities and events they would like to see take place in the coming months.
During December, several successful events took place. A Christmas lunch was held at The Royal House Restaurant, where 15 members came together to enjoy a lovely meal, take part in festive games, and finish the afternoon with a fun disco. The group also hosted a wreath-making workshop, with 18 members attending and proudly showing off their creativity and crafting skills.
BFSWS Cyprus Volunteer Coordinator Sharon Thomas, said “Moving to Cyprus, away from our family and friends can be isolating for many of us. Talkin’ Tables is a great way of meeting new people who are all in the same boat as you. It’s a space where you can turn up alone and know there will be someone there to greet you”
The first session of 2026 will be:
Monday 19th January
19.00 – 20.30
The Royal House, Akrotiri Village
